Captain Scott Propst
We are excited to offer you an amazing day on the water and wanted to give you a brief look at what your experience will be like. The San Juan Islands are incredible. The waters in the San Juan Islands are gorgeous and rich in biodiversity. Sport fishermen are drawn to the area for the opportunity to catch lingcod, salmon, Dungeness crab, halibut, and shrimp, but are often surprised by the incredible wildlife viewing opportunities. Humpback whales, minke whales, orcas, porpoises, seals, and sea-lions all come to feed on the plentiful supply of fish in the San Juan Islands making every trip its own unique adventure.
Below is some species specific information for each type of trip.
We are often trolling for Salmon using downriggers and/or lead weight to get our lures to a certain depth. There are many spots to fish that are close to our departure location out of Skyline Marina and it’s possible we will be fishing within 20 minutes of leaving the dock. Salmon fishing is a fan favorite because of how much fun it is to fight a fish once you get that strike! We target chinook, coho, and pink salmon and you'll enjoy incredible views, the potential to see whales and other wildlife all while enjoying the excitement of hunting for that trophy fish!

Fishing for Lingcod is by far the most dynamic trip we do. If you enjoy jigging then this is the trip for you! We will be moving from spot to spot until we find the fish and when we do you will know it. Lingcod are aggressive and territorial rock dwellers, we will be bouncing bottom with jigs until one strikes and bends the rod! Not only are they a blast to catch, they are also one of the tastiest fish to throw on the grill with white flakey meat.
Typical Season:
May - June
Full Day Charter:
6-8 hours $900 1-3 people
Each additional person $300per person
Up to 6 people per boat
Halibut fishing will usually be on a raised area of underwater terrain with deep water surrounding. We look for steep slopes that feed down from these banks and allow the halibut to swim up following the scent of our bait. We mostly anchor and put a chum bag in the water with constant attention to keeping bait fresh and scent in the water. Occasionally, we will drift if the conditions dictate and this can be a successful fishing technique as well. Our baits include herring, squid, mackerel, octopus and salmon parts. Landing a halibut on the boat can be the most exciting part of the trip as we use a harpoon to attach the fish to the boat with secondary line and flotation. Halibut is a prized fish to fill your freezer and incredibly exciting to fight!

DEPARTURE:
Typical departure times will be early in the morning. Meeting up around 7:00am is common but may vary depending on weather and tides. We depart from the beautiful Skyline Marina on the West side of Anacortes.
As we head South out of the marina you immediately see the beauty of the San Juan Islands as Burrows island to the West appears on the horizon. Most trips involve a boat ride somewhere between 20 - 45 minutes to our initial fishing spot. This also can be dependent on weather and water conditions.
THE BOAT
The 27ft Skagit Orca you’ll be traveling in makes the trip comfortable as the boat handles the water with ease as we cruise around 28kts. The boat is also equipped with heat, a head (bathroom) and plenty of indoor seating to get out of the weather and take a break. There’s even room in the V-berth if you need that fish nap half way through the day!
THE FISHING EXPERIENCE
Depending on the species of fish we are going for, the fishing will begin as soon as we get to our fishing spot and many times that spot is picked on the way out that morning. We’ll use our years of experience and knowledge and the latest information to make that decision on where to go. One thing is certain, it will be beautiful!
Most days we will spend 6-8 hours on the water dock to dock. So be sure to look at the recommended items to bring and be ready for that duration. Once we are done fishing, the return will be in the afternoon, and again, time to get back will depend on the weather and water. Once back, we clean, filet and bag your catch and get you on to your next adventure!
